The Youth Programme coordinates the implementation of adolescents and youth programs in the national response to SRH, HIV, AIDS, health and wellbeing. It targets young people aged 10-24 years In-school, out of school and in higher and tertiary education institutions.
The programme aims to reduce new HIV infections, manage the impact of HIV and increase access to services among young people. It ensures provision of age appropriate, scientifically based and culturally relevant interventions centred on behaviour change communication, life-skills, livelihoods, and youth friendly service delivery.
It empowers young people with comprehensive sexuality education and life skills that enable them to make informed decisions and choices resulting in the reduction in morbidity and mortality associated with sexual reproductive health, HIV and AIDS among adolescents and youth.
The programme brings out the coordinated voice of young people in the national response to HIV and AIDS through the Young People's Network on Health and wellbeing (YPNHW).
Coordination and capacity building activities of implementing partners in the national response to HIV and AIDS such as; quarterly meetings, trainings, strategy review and development
Coordination and implementation of models such as Sister2Sister (S2S), Brother2Brother (B2B), Community Adolescent Treatment Supporters (CATS), Young Mentor Mother (YMM), Start Awareness Support Action (SASA), Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS)
Health and life skills activities in schools like: Payment of education assistance through BEAM, training of teachers, routine programme monitoring, monitoring support visits, School Quiz Competitions
Health and life skills activities in Higher and Tertiary Education institutions like; coordinating orientation sessions for new students, review meetings with focal persons, training of peer educators, launch and dissemination of the Health and life skills curriculum for Higher and Tertiary Education
Coordinating activities of the Young People's Network on Health and Wellbeing to ensure youth participation in the national response to HIV and AIDS like quarterly meetings, exhibitions, campaigns like the NotInMyVillage, advocacy meetings with Parliamentarians
Material production and distribution of Chiefs guidelines, posters, pamphlets, T-shirts
Coordinating documentation of the NotInMyVillage campaign
